Company Bosses Step in to Support Local School
A team of Director's from one of the UK's leading sandwich manufacturers has stepped in to help raise the final £10,000 that will enable the pupils of Crickhowell High School fulfil their dream of representing the UK in the final of the World Rock Challenge in Dubai in two weeks time.

The team, from
Northampton based Uniq Prepared Foods, will attempt to raise the money by
completing a sponsored 'Death Slide' across a stretch of the River Usk in
Crickhowell Village at 3pm this afternoon.
The school has already managed to
raise three quarters of the £40,000 needed to pay for the trip but, unless Uniq
can come up with the goods this afternoon, face the disappointment of having to
leave some of the pupils behind.
Uniq's Supply Chain Director Phil Lovell explains: "We came to
Wales for a quiet bit of team bonding and suddenly find ourselves planning to
construct a 50 metre long zip wire to cross a river! None of us have ever done
anything like this before however when we heard about the achievement of the
pupils in reaching the World Final of this competition we really wanted to
help. They beat of stiff competition from across the UK including several
schools specialising in drama and dance.
"Crickhowell is a very special
school, they have been pioneering an inclusive approach to developing self
esteem, developing multicultural links and giving children key life skills,
taking them away from drugs, alcohol and other damaging activities. Several
members of the Rock Challenge troupe are on the 'at risk' register, and one is
profoundly deaf yet they are still encouraged to be a part of the
team.
"We hope to
get loads of local people down to the river to support us this afternoon and in
the meanwhile are busy trying to raise as much sponsorship as possible and not
to think too much about the actual challenge!"
