Preliminary Results. Modified Recovery Plan

Uniq, the European chilled convenience food group, today announces preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2008.

Key developments

• Group broadly maintained sales in very challenging market conditions (sales down 0.6%*)

• Operating loss** increased to £8.4m in line with revised expectations

• Continued recovery in France and Northern Europe

• Overall UK financial performance impacted by inflation and consumer spending

• UK desserts factory consolidation on track

• Agreed £1m sale of Pinneys (post year end)

• Modified recovery plan in place to re-focus on UK

• Commenced process to crystallise value in France and Northern Europe

• Bank facilities extended and increased in February 2009 to support modified recovery plan

Commenting on a difficult year in the recovery of Uniq, Geoff Eaton, Chief Executive, Uniq plc said:

“In response to the tough trading conditions we have taken decisive action to modify our recovery plan. We have appointed Oddo Corporate Finance in France and Stamford Partners in Northern Europe to pursue consolidation opportunities to create value through, joint venture or sale and we will focus our resources to build a stronger business in the UK for the longer term.”
